The Smart Gilas Pilipinas will face today the depending champion of the 3rd FIBA Asia Cup, the Lebanese National Basketball Team. The Philippines will try to regain their composure and try to avenged their previous loss to Lebanon during the 34th Jones Cup.
The Philippines was unsuccessful on their first game against the young but talented Chinese squad led by promising giant and former MVP of the U-18 squad, Wang Zhelin.
Lebanon on the other hand was successful on their first outings as they were able to easily defeat Macau on their opening game with the final score at 120-51, an impressive win for the Lebanese squad.
One of the most prominent player in the Lebanese squad was the comeback of Lebanese star Fadi El-Khatib and Elias Rustom, the former point guard of the Lebanese team, two of the most prolific performer during the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
Rustom was out for the Lebanese team during the 26th FIBA Asia Championship in Wuhan, China after he suffered from an injury. Fadi El-Khatib on the other hand was absent during the Lebanese stint in the 34th Jones Cup.
The Lebanese team was also back stopped by their youth stars Saleh Foroutan and Behnam Yakhchali which will surely tests the mettle of the Smart Gilas Pilipinas.
Lebanon is raring to depend their title they last won during the 2010 FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup which was renamed to the FIBA Asia Cup.
