Oprah Winfrey: Shamcey Supsup ‘deserved to win’ Miss U 2011

Oprah WinfreyThere had been different reactions after the coronation of the Miss Universe 2011 wherein , the crown was p(–foul word(s) removed–)ed to Leila Lopes from Angola.

Each supporters and fans supporting the top 5 candidates had something to say towards representatives from China, Philippines, Brazil, Ukraine and Angola.

However, what caught media attention was the statement allegedly said by Queen of Talk and one of the world’s most influential celebrity Oprah Winfrey in NBC.news. In her statement she had expressed her view that it was Philippines rep Shamcey Supsup who should be crowned as the new Miss Universe because of the straight to the point answer that she had delivered swiftly after the question was thrown to her.

Aside from that, among the top 5 finalist for the Miss Universe crown, Shamcey was the only candidate who answered the question without the aid of interpreter.

Directly quoted from starmometer.com, the following was the alleged statement of Oprah:

“I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point.”

This statement had been circulating in the internet as of press time, and with the presence of the social networking site Facebook and micro-blogging  Twitter, this statement went on viral to numerous pages.

However, Philippines Shamcey Supsup who landed as 3rd runner-up expressed that she was already happy with what she had accomplished. She strongly believed that it was all God’s plan. Everything that had been happening in her life right now was God’s will.

Everything was Unexpected

It could be noticed yesterday, while the coronation night took place, at the announcement for the Top 10, when Shamcey’s name was called, her reaction seemed to be in the moment of not believing and unsure of what she had heard.

In the interview and report published in abs-cbnnews.com, Shamcey mentioned that she had committed a major mistake while doing the swimwear competition. She even said that she kept on praying to God to take control in the situation and He’s will be done.

Furthermore, in her prayer, she mentioned that if she made it to the Top 10, then it was no longer her will but it’s already God who is taking over in her life at that moment.

On the other hand, for those who were interested to know if Shamcey is still single and  available, well, this news might not be a good one  because, Shamcey, 25, had revealed that she is already “taken” and that she had a boyfriend.

After the competition, she is now excited to go home in the Philippines.

Aside from that, she had a clear picture in mind of where life will lead her, and that is for her to be an architect. It might take some time because of the blessings right now, but she knows, that day will come.

Sen. Mirriam Santiago protests

Reactions flooded with regards to Shamcey’s victory, it was not only Oprah Winfrey who had Shamcey as the winner because even the well-known Philippine Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago revealed that she was disappointed with the outcome of the pageant.

If there could be a legal remedy for the result, the Senator said that she is willing to file a protest.
